Best of Pécs
Széchenyi Square and the Mosque
Let's start with the most iconic attraction of Pécs! The Gázi Kászim Pasha Mosque, located in the heart of the city center, surrounded by the baroque buildings surrounding Széchenyi Square, together with the TV tower towering on Misinatető in the background, is perhaps the first sight that comes to mind when we hear the name of the city (and most souvenir postcards also depict this skyline ).
Cella Septichora and the Early Christian Burial Chambers
AD 3-4 In 2006, the early Christian cemetery ensemble built during the 19th century was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The significance of the necropolis lies in the fact that there are no large number of stone-built, painted Roman tombs outside of Rome.
Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace
Perhaps the other best-known building in the city is the Cathedral dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul. The beautiful neo-Romanesque church, the construction of which is associated with Péter Orseoló, took its final form in the 1880s and its appearance praises the expertise of the architect Frigyes Schmidt.
TV Tower
Operating since 1973, the 197-meter-high TV tower on top of the 535-meter-high Misina is not only responsible for broadcasting the TV program; it also has a restaurant with a panoramic view, an exhibition and a lookout point, from which you can see the Villányi Mountains in clear weather, but also the Croatian Papuk Hill or Badacsony.
Zsolnay Cultural Quarter
Between 2008 and 2011, several permanent exhibitions present the heritage of Vilmos Zsolnay in the area of the former porcelain factory, which was reconstructed as part of the "Cultural Capital of Europe" project. .
Tettye ruins and Havihegyi church
The area around the ruins of Tettye is perhaps one of Pécs' most popular hiking spots, and also one of the most popular wedding venues in the city.
